Boy from the Never Never

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boy from the Never Never is a 1949 Australia radio feature about soil erosion by D'arcy Niland.

The broadcast was attacked in Federal Parliament for being blasphemous.[1] It was defenced b the ABC and Arthur Calwell, the relevant minister.[2]

The Adelaide News called it " a remarkable piece of work... The play was too disturbing to be called entertainment, but entertainment was not its mission. I found the build-up a little drawn out, but the message itself packed a terrific punch, was well presented and' exceedingly well written."[3]

Premise[edit]

"The story of Jimmy Perry, an ignorant aboriginal boy, who sees a vision of Christ, who tells Jimmy that it is his mission to warn Australia of the problem of its dust-bowl."[4]
